The WPU is global currency benchmark. WPU is a basket of twelve currencies, covering 90% of all global currency trading. WPU is designed to protect global investors’ wealth in global terms. Institutional investors have very large, concentrated exposures to major currencies like the US Dollar, Euro, and Japanese Yen. Hedging concentrated currency exposure into WPU reduces currency risk by diversification.
The WPU weights are updated annually by FTSE, based on published methodology.
